cpc or coc

Im considering becoming a medical coder. Iwanted to know if I had to start off as a cpc or if I could start off as a coc. If I have an option what would be the best one to start off with and what are the differences between the two?

Most start off with the CPC because they are not sure what direction they want to go in - if you know already you are interested in working in outpatient then go for the COC. The knowledge you need related to coding is the same. The COC then requires additional knowledge relative to the outpatient payment methodologies.
